Kat Von D - Poetica Palette

One of the three new Kat Von D palettes (I'll be covering the other two very shortly). Poetica comprises purple shades with neutrals, shimmery black & a coppery colour. Poetica is a similar colour scheme to the True Love palette, although Poetica has no cream shadows.

Packaging-wise, these palettes still come housed in the cardboard sleeves featuring Kat's artwork. Previous palettes were wrapped in black paper, the new ones aren't. Inside the box, a sample sachet of  the High Voltage Eye Primer in the Skin shade.
The actual palettes are now made of metal, rather than the rubbery finish of previous palettes. Each features a different embossed design.

There's still a mirror in the lid. Although there's only a minute difference between the sizes of the old palettes & the new, the mirror seems more useable.

Instead of the two small dual-ended brushes of old, the new palettes feature a mini Autograph pencil eyeliner in Puro Amor (black).

Forgiveness, Sand Timer, Chandler, Tijuana

The more neutral side of the palette.

Forgiveness is described as a pearlized butter-cream, on the skin it's a very shimmery pale yellow-gold. It's similar to Sugar Skull from the Memento Mori palette although Forgiveness is a touch more sheer & golden.

Sand Timer is labelled as a pearlized sand. It isn't as shimmery as Forgiveness. It's quite a pale shade, even on my skin-tone.

Chandler is a shimmery copper-orange shade. Those that prefer cooler tones probably won't have much love for this particular colour.

Tijuana is a blackened brown (although it comes across as black on me) with gold sparkle. This shade has also appeared in the Tattoo Chronicles palette & the Memento Mori palette.

Wonderland, Skiba, Babe, You Alone

Wonderland is a burgundy base with added sparkle. It's similar to Cholita from the True Love palette but a tad less blackened & Cholita has no sparkle.

Skiba, a purple with gold pearl, also featured in the True Love palette.

Babe is another shadow that made its debut in the True Love palette.

You Alone is described as being a matte vanilla, although it has a slight sheen to it that makes it more like a satin finish than a matte. This isn't overly shimmery so it can easily be used as a highlight shade.

As with previous palettes from the Kat Von D line, I've had no problems getting these to swatch at all, they have good textures & great pigmentation. The colour selection is incredibly similar to the True Love palette, so you can skip this one if you already have True Love unless you collect them.

If you're trying to decide between True Love & Poetica, the deciding factors would probably be whether you prefer the neutral/day-time shades in Poetica or True Love. Texture also comes into question as True Love features a cream shadow, whether you like creams or not (I mostly err on the side of no), the cream shadows in these palettes do seem to dry out quite quickly. The addition of the liner pencil over the small brushes is a definite plus.
However, True Love is currently being sold on Sephora at $24, whereas Poetica is $35, so price is yet another factor to take into account.

If I were to choose between the two, I'd probably go for Poetica purely because of the lack of a cream shadow & the eyeliner vs. the mini brushes.
